Pros And Cons Of Affiliate Marketing For Merchants

Pros Of Affiliate Marketing For Merchants

  • Merchants don’t have to search for their customers, because affiliates or publishers would be doing that for them. For instance, affiliates will be placing their affiliate links online through different channels, such as websites, blogs, forums, and etc.

  • Merchants will have greater profit when they have affiliate marketing programs. They don’t have to worry about advertising fees as much, as this would be done by most affiliates online.

  • Merchants will get to keep these customers on the long run. So if the customer is satisfied with the item bought, they are more likely to purchase from that merchant over and over again. So it’s a win-win situation for the merchant.

  • Starting a website for publishers or affiliates is now easier, and less expensive than before. So more and more affiliates are joining the affiliate marketing business. Thus, merchants have a better chance of getting more sales and customers.

  • Merchants are at less risk. So if the publisher makes a sale, merchants will then pay them. The publisher is really doing all the hard work for them.

  • A lot of people are now using the internet to do their shopping, so merchants have a high chance of making more sales.

  • There are a lot of free training material that will help teach affiliate marketing for free, which means more and more affiliates will want to join the affiliate marketing sector. This only means more and more sales to these merchants.

Cons Of Affiliate Marketing For Merchants

  • The merchant may be at a high risk of losing customers, because affiliates are mostly after making the sale. For example, affiliates may advertise something about the product that is not true, and so when customers buy the product, and find out that it is different than what was described to them, they may not want to ever purchase from that merchant.

  • There is a chance that there will be less affiliates interested in promoting the product offered by merchants. This could result in less sales for the merchant.

  • Publishers may not be interested in the type of commission pay offered by the merchant. Most publishers are now going after high paying affiliate programs that offer recurring commissions. Most merchants do not offer these type of commissions.

  • Merchants need to always be up to date when providing its affiliates with promotional offers and banners and etc.

  • Some merchants may be short on funds and may not be able to pay its affiliates. This will fire back on the merchant and will cause them to lose sales.
