Pros And Cons Of Affiliate Marketing For Publishers

Hi there,

Today I would like to share with you pros and cons of affiliate marketing for publishers. If you are a publisher yourself then you already know what affiliate marketing is all about.

For those that are new to affiliate marketing. It is simply an arrangement whereby a company pays commission to an affiliate (can be a publisher) for driving sales to the company.

Having said that, if you are a publisher you would post affiliate links on your blog or website, and when visitors click your affiliate link, and actually make a purchase, you as an affiliate will earn a commission.

Pros And Cons Of Affiliate Marketing For Publishers

Pros Of Affiliate Marketing For Publishers

  • Publisher or affiliates can work from home, and if they earn enough, they can quit their jobs, and work as an affiliate marketer at their own time.

  • Being an affiliate marketer means you can work from anywhere. And you can choose your own schedule, meaning you are your own boss. All you need is a Laptop, and an internet connection.

  • Most affiliate programs are free to join, which means that as a publisher you don’t have to worry about investment costs and etc. However, some affiliate networks do require their affiliates to have either a mobile-app, or a website.

  • As a publisher, you don’t worry about customer support, book keeping, or the shipping and handling costs of the item, as this is all done by the merchant. All you have to do is get the affiliate link out there, and watch the dollars come in.

  • Several Affiliate networks (such as VigLink), will do the hard work for you (as an affiliate). VigLink will simply place affiliate links on your website, on your behalf. So you don’t have to worry about that. This is great for new affiliates, who are just starting out.

  • Little to no operating costs: so as a publisher you only need to pay for keeping your website up and running. For example, hosting fees.

  • As a publisher you can be earning money even if you are on a vacation. As long as your website is up and running, someone can be visiting your site and clicking on your affiliate link and making a purchase.

  • There is really no risk for the publisher.  As mentioned earlier, all you really need to have is a website, and if you don’t succeed in affiliate marketing, you can find other ways to make money with your website, other than affiliate marketing.

  • As a publisher, you don’t need to worry about storing your products and shipping them to the client. All you have to do is supply the visitor with the affiliate link, and once they click your click and actually make a purchase, you will then earn a commission for that sale.

  • Little to no stress for the publisher. All you have to do is place the affiliate links, and get your website out. There is no need to please your boss or follow someone else’s directions. You do whatever works for you.

  • Almost any niche or topic idea has an affiliate program. So you always have something to promote relevant to your Niche or topic idea.

  • There are so many affiliate programs out there. And all have a wide variety of products which you can promote.

  • If you are just starting out in affiliate marketing, you may lose patience when you don’t see the sales coming in a first. It takes time to actually earn your first sale.

  • In order to make sales, you need to learn the ins and out of affiliate marketing. If you don’t have the time to devote to learn, you might not succeed as an affiliate marketer.

  • If you are new to affiliate marketing, you might start to post affiliate links everywhere, and this might get you banned from a lot of sites.

  • Affiliate marketing is not an over night rich scheme. You need to work hard in order to start seeing these dollars come in. A lot of people will just give up.

  • As a publisher in most cases you need to have a website. A website may be costly for those on a tight budget. If you are short on funds, and would like to start your own blog, you can start with BlueHost.

  • Some affiliate programs require you to have a quota in order to be accepted into their program. This may be hard to attain especially if you are new to affiliate marketing.

  • As a publisher, you need to have traffic coming to your site in order to start seeing some sales. Having said that, if you don’t have traffic, it’s impossible to make sales. One good book that will help you drive traffic to your business is this Traffic Secrets book here. It is free of charge, you only need to pay the price of the Shipping.
