This post will show the exact steps of What You Need To Start A WordPress Blog On Blue host? All you really need to start a WordPress blog is simply a computer, internet connection, a home office, Blue host account, domain, and install word press.
A computer can be a laptop or a desktop computer. It really depends on your preference. So whichever one you prefer to use. It is really up to you. However, having a laptop means you can blog whenever you have the time, even if you are at a coffee shop.
An internet connection is needed so you can actually access your website, and create content to have published on to your website. It does not matter whether it is a WiFi or any other type of connection. As long as you have some sort of an internet connection, which you can use to access your website.
A home office does not have to be something fancy, because you can actually buy a whole new home office once you ACTUALLY start earning money from your blog.
I remember when I first started my blogging business, I used my patio table, which I had stored inside during the winter time, and I used one of my dining table chairs, and of course, I had my old laptop. I was short on funds, and so I just started really low and began to climb up as my blog started to mature.
A hosting company is simply a house or a home where your websites will live in. Getting a home for your website is not as expensive as you may think. But today I will show you how you can get one for free.
Let’s Start Building Your Website!
Before we start building your website on blue host, you should have a topic or a niche in mind.
There are a few things to keep in mind when building a WordPress blog such as:
- What kind of website you want?
- A hosting company.
- Need a Domain
- Choose a website design.
What Kind Of Website You Want?
In this case, there are 2 options to choose from, either a free website or your own domain. Free websites are hosted on sub-domains. Below I will explain the difference between a domain and a sub-domain.
A sub-domain is a subset of a domain, in other words, a sub-domain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. An example of a sub-domain would be: websitename.siterubix.com, so the siterubix.com is considered a sub-domain.
On the other hand, a domain is simply the extension used in a domain name, such as .com, net and more. And a domain name is your website name.
For the sake of this guide, we will be purchasing our own domain through blue host.
Moreover, you need to use a platform where you will be creating your content. For the sake of this guide, we will be using word press as our platform. I personally recommend using the self hosted word press, click here to see why.
So now that you have decided what kind of platform you want to use to create your website. We need a hosting company to host our website on. In this tutorial, we will use Blue Host.
Why Blue host?
- Blue Host has an excellent customer support.
- Have a user-friendly control panel.
- You get a free domain when you first sign up with them. A domain normally costs somewhere between $15-$20 per year. This is one of the main reasons newbies start with blue host.
- BH (BlueHost) powers over 2 million websites.
- They have 24/7 live support for both shoppers and customers.
- Their WordPress hosting has been officially recommended by the WordPress organization.
- If for any reason, you are not happy with the service there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- They provide inexpensive hosting plans for individuals and small businesses.
Choose A Domain Name
When choosing a domain name, ensure that you choose something that is related to your niche. Having said that, if your Niche is about traveling , don’t name your website cats and dogs, or something totally not relating to your niche.
Let’s Build Your WordPress Site On Blue Host:
Head on to the Blue-Host official website and click on “Get Started Now” (See image below).
Next, you will need to select your plan. In this case, I recommend you choose the basic plan, especially if you are just starting out your Blog or Niche site.(See screen below).
Now that you have chosen your plan, you will then be redirected to a screen where you will pick out your FREE domain name (See screen below). As mentioned earlier, you will get your first domain for free with Blue host.
Note: When choosing a domain name, ensure your domain name will match or is somewhat relevant to your Niche. For example, if your Niche is about traveling with cats.
Your domain name should be something like “travelingwithcats.com”, or even “travelwithcats.com. This way it is easier for your visitors to remember your website name.
Once you have chosen your domain name, you will be redirected to a screen where you will be asked to create your account. You will need to enter your Account information, Package information, and your Payment information (See screen below).
When asked to enter your package information (See screen below). I recommend you uncheck the boxes for “Domain Privacy Protection”, SiteLock Security”, and “Codeguard Basic”. You can always check them later on, but for now, keep them unchecked.
Once done, you click Submit, and you are all set. You should then receive a confirmation email, with your site URL, and password.
Next sign into your Blue-Host account (using the credential you had received in the email, and go to the Dashboard. Click on “Hosting”, And scroll to the bottom of the page under “Website”, and click on “Install WordPress”. (See image below).
Once you click “Install WordPress”, you will need to wait until WordPress has been installed.
Once WordPress is fully installed, you will be provided with the information you need to log into your WordPress Site. Save it, so you can use it to log into your WordPress site.
Once WordPress has successfully been installed you will be redirected to a screen like the one below. Click on the “Admin URL” in order to log into your WordPress site. (See screen below).
Once you click on “Admin URL”, you will be redirected to a screen (see below), where you need to enter your username and password (should have already saved when WordPress was installed).
So now every time you need to log into your website, you will need to access it through WordPress. You will need to use your Login URL in order to log into WordPress.
The Login URL is http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin. Fill in “Your domain” with your actual website name. And all you have to do is enter your WordPress credentials.
That’s all you need to do in order to create your website. And remember your website is simply the foundation of your business. This is where all of your traffic will come to.
Choose A Design For Your Website
Next, I will show you how you can customize your website. This is the fun and easy part, because you get to be creative in how you choose to layout and design your website.
So go ahead and log into your WordPress site, and you can see on the left-hand side, you can create blog posts, customize the site appearance, create and edit menus, and many more.
First of all, I want to show you how you can change the theme of your website. You can either use free themes or premium themes (paid themes). As a beginner, I strongly recommend that you use a free theme.
You can always change your theme and upgrade to a premium theme. But as a beginner, it’s alright to use a free theme. And that’s what we will be using , a free theme.
How To Change The Theme Of Your Website?
After you have logged into your WordPress site, click on “Appearance” and then select “Themes” and you will see lots of free themes, type in the search box the name of the theme you wish to customize and activate it. I recommend you use the theme called “I am Social”, for a few reasons:
- Easy to use.
- Ability to create your own slider from sets of colors and fonts to customize the design of your website.
So if you don’t already see ” I am Social” in the themes list, simply type in the search bar ” I am social” and it should come up (see screen below).
How To Add Content To Your Website?
You will be using this feature a lot. So if you wish to add or write content (posts), log into your WordPress site, and from the dashboard screen, click on Posts > Add New (please see screen below).
How To Add Menus To Your Website?
If you wish to add the menus, click on “Appearance”, and click on “Menus”.
How To Add Pages To Your Website?
To create a page , simply go to Pages and click on “Add new”. And again once your ready to publish you hit the publish button, otherwise you would save it as a draft.
That’s it, Folks. We have reached the end of the step by step guide on what you need to start a word press blog on blue host.
