This post will show you the exact steps of how to start a word press blog on the blue host. All you really need to start a WordPress blog is simply a computer, internet connection, a home office, Blue host account, domain, and install word press.

A computer can be a laptop or a desktop computer. It really depends on your preference. So whichever one you prefer to use. It is really up to you. However, having a laptop means you can blog whenever you have the time, even if you are at a coffee shop.

An internet connection is needed so you can actually access your website, and create content to have published on to your website. It does not matter whether it is a WiFi or any other type of connection. As long as you have some sort of an internet connection, which you can use to access your website.

A home office does not have to be something fancy, because you can actually buy a whole new home office once you ACTUALLY start earning money from your blog.

I remember when I first started my blogging business, I used my patio table, which I had stored inside during the winter time, and I used one of my dining table chairs, and of course, I had my old laptop. I was short on funds, and so I just started really low and began to climb up as my blog started to mature.

A hosting company is simply a house or a home where your websites will live in. Getting a home for your website is not as expensive as you may think. But today I will show you how you can get one for free.

Building Your Website

Now that you have your Topic or your Niche all figured out, you need to start building your website. This is easier than you think. And it is very inexpensive to build or create a website.

I personally recommend that you keep away from online platforms that promise you of free websites. You will know why later on. If you don’t know what your Niche is or are having a hard time coming up with a Niche, you can click here to help you decide on your niche.

You can host your website with a hosting company that is much cheaper than having to host with these online platforms. There are a few things to keep in mind when building a WordPress blog such as:

  • Choose the kind of website you want.
  • Choose a hosting company.
  • Choose a Domain ( I can show you how you can get a domain for free), website name.
  • Choose a website design.

Choose the kind of website you want.

In this case, there are 2 options to choose from, on either a free website or your own domain. And as I mentioned earlier please do not use a free website, because a free website is rather hosted on a sub-domain. Below I will explain the difference between a domain and a sub-domain.

A sub-domain is a subset of a domain, in other words, a sub-domain is a domain that is part of a larger domain. An example of a sub-domain would be: websitename.siterubix.com, so the siterubix.com is considered a sub-domain.

On the other hand, a domain is simply the extension used in a domain name, such as .com, net and more. And a domain name is your website name.

For the sake of this guide, please do not use a sub-domain when building your niche website, because you don’t really own the website. So whoever is supplying you with a website hosted on a sub-domain is able to take it away from you without prior notice, and there is nothing you can do about it because you don’t actually own the website if it is hosted on a sub-domain, they do!

I am sure you don’t want your work to go all to waste. Buy a domain and save yourself the hassle. It’s not costly at all. All it really costs is somewhere between $15-$20 per year ( Click here to get your free domain with Blue Host today). Now that you know the difference between a domain and a sub-domain I will leave it to you to decide which one to go for.

Obviously, you need to use some sort of a platform where you will be creating your content and posts on your website, and there are so many platforms out there. And again, for the sake of this guide, we will be using word press as our platform. I personally have been using it for quite some time, and I have to be honest I love it.

Having said that, you have two options to decide upon which to use, there is a hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.com) or Self-Hosted WordPress (Also Known as WordPress.Org).

Which is better to use?

Pros Of Hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.com)

  • WordPress.com will take care of all the hosting for you. So you don’t really have to pay for a hosting company your self.

  • You do not have to worry about maintaining an update and or back up on your website, as this is done for you automatically.

  • You do not have to pay for a domain name. You are on a sub-domain.

  • You get about 100 themes which you can choose from.

Cons Of Hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.com)

  • You are limited in terms of themes. So you cannot customize or upload customized themes. There are certain themes which you can use.

  • You cannot use or download plugins at all. You can only use the ones that are already built in.

  • You cannot have a custom domain, which means you are on a sub-domain. And this means that you do not actually own the website, compared to when you have your own domain.

  • You cannot place ads on your website, rather you have ads placed on your website, and you don’t make money by accepting to place these ads. You really do not have a choice.

  • You cannot create an online store.

  • You cannot install third-party analytics plugins.

  • You cannot create membership sites.

  • You do not own the content.

  • You cannot add email marketing tools such as Aweber, GetResponse, or MailChimp.

Pros Of Self-Hosted WordPress (Also Known as WordPress.Org)

  • You will find the WordPress software and download and install on your web-server.

  • You can use all the plug-ins you want. Whether they are free or paid plugins.

  • You can use any ads you want on your website. And you get to keep 100 percent of your earnings.

  • You can create an online store.

  • You can use third-party analytics plugins.

  • You can create membership sites.

  • You own the content.

  • You get over 1500 themes to choose from.

  • You can add any email marketing tool to your websites, such as Aweber, MailChimp, and GetResponse.

Cons Of Self-Hosted WordPress (Also Known as WordPress.Org)

  • You need to pay for your own hosting.

  • You need to pay to purchase your own domain (.org, .com, .net, and etc).

  • You are responsible for having updates done on your site.

Consequently, you can see each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, it is better recommended to go with the WordPress.org. Although it costs money, you are in control of your website.

Hosting Company

So now that you have decided what kind of platform you want to use to create your website. We need a hosting company to host our website on. There are so many hosting companies out there for you to choose from. But I would highly recommend you use the blue host as your host because the blue host has been officially recommended by the WordPress organization. They are one of only 3 web hosting companies.

Why Bluehost?

  • Blue Host has excellent customer support.

  • They have a user-friendly control panel.

  • The blue host gives you a free domain when you first sign up with them. A domain normally costs somewhere between $15-$20 per year. This is one of the main reasons newbies start with blue host.

  • Bluehost powers over 2 million websites.

  • Blue Host has 24/7 live support for both shoppers and customers.

  • BlueHost’s WordPress hosting has been officially recommended by the WordPress organization.

  • If for any reason, you are not happy with the service there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • They provide inexpensive hosting plans for individuals and small businesses.

So these are just a few reasons why you should consider a blue host as your hosting company. But I will leave that for you to decide. Note: When choosing a domain name, ensure your domain name will match or is somewhat relevant to your Niche. For example, if your Niche is about traveling with cats. Your domain name should be something like “travelingwithcats.com”, or even “travelwithcats.com. This way it is easier for your visitors to remember your website name.

Once you have chosen your domain name, you will be redirected to a screen where you will be asked to create your account. You will need to enter your Account information, Package information, and your Payment information (See screen below).

So now every time you need to log into your website, you will need to access it through WordPress. You will need to use your Login URL in order to log into WordPress. Your Login URL can be found at http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin. Fill in “Your domain” with your actual website name. And all you have to do is enter your WordPress credentials.

That’s all you need to do in order to create your website. And remember your website is simply the foundation of your business. This is where all of your traffic will come to.

Choose A Design For Your Website

Next, I will show you how you can customize your website. This is the fun and easy part, because you get to be creative in how you choose to layout and design your website.

So go ahead and log into your WordPress site, and you can see on the left-hand side, you can create blog posts, customize the site appearance, create and edit menus, and many more.

First of all, I want to show you how you can change the theme of your website. You can either use free themes or premium themes (paid themes). As a beginner, I strongly recommend that you use a free theme.

You can always change your theme and upgrade to a premium theme. But as a beginner, it’s alright to use a free theme. And that’s what we will be using , a free theme.

How To Change The Theme Of Your Website?

After you have logged into your WordPress site, click on “Appearance” > “Themes” and you will see lots of free themes, type in the search box the name of the theme you wish to customize and activate it. I recommend you use the theme called “I am Social”, for a few reasons:

  • It’s customizable.
  • It’s easy to use.
  • It’s responsive.
  • You can create your own slider from sets of colors and fonts to customize the design of your website.

So if you don’t already see ” I am Social” in the themes list, simply type in the search bar ” I am social” and it should come up (see screen below).

To create a page , simply go  to Pages and click on “Add new”. And again once your ready to publish you hit the publish button, otherwise you would save it as a draft.

How Can You Make Money From A Blog?

There are numerous ways which you can make money from your blog. Below is a list for you to check and see how you can make money with your blog or niche site.

Affiliate Marketing

This is a very common way of making money with your blog. Affiliate marketing is simply recommending other peoples products and services to your visitors based on your Niche or topic. You can find so many affiliate companies which you can partner with and become an affiliate, and start promoting their products and services.

The best way to find affiliate companies based on your Niche or topic, simply do a web search, so head on to google, and type in your Niche + affiliate marketing. And you should get a list of affiliate companies that relate to your Niche.

As mentioned earlier, there are tons of affiliate programs which you can join. However, as a beginner, it is recommended to start off with Amazon. They have a wide range of products which you can use to promote on your blog. They have a good affiliate program, but they do require their affiliates to get at least 3 sales in their first 180 days of joining the Amazon affiliate program.

Creating Digital Products

Digital products are another way which you can use to monetize your blog. Digital products are simply, eBooks, video tutorials and guides, or even audio files. It really depends on what your digital product is about.

If you have a blog that is making you money, and you would like to share with your visitors how you are making money, you can definitely create an eBook, which shows the steps they should take in order to start earning money from their blog.

Having said that, you can sell your eBooks or digital products on your blog, or you can even sell them on Click-bank, or Amazon. But please note that if you choose to sell them on Amazon or Click-bank, you will need to pay fees. Please do check with these sites for more information.

Sell Physical Products

Again this idea of monetizing your blog will heavily depend on your topic or Niche. So if your Niche involves selling physical products, you can certainly do that without having to join affiliate programs.

Advertising (Ads).

Having Ads on your blog is one of the common ways bloggers make money. All you have to do is simply join advertising companies, such as Google Adsense, Mediavine, AdThrive, just to name a few.  And so whenever a visitor clicks on one of the ads, you will earn money.

You can also earn money from page-views. If you have 10,000 page views per month, you can earn around $10, so as you can see it’s not as much, but usually, you should wait until you have a higher number of page views per month, then you can join Advertising companies.

Please ensure you not have many ads placed on your website, as it will distract your visitors, which may cause you to lose visitors or it may also cause your website to load slower.

Make sure you balance your Ads, don’t over do it. It will hurt your website, than actually benefit it.

Create courses to teach people

So it depends on your Niche site. If your Niche site teaches your visitors a certain skill, then you can definitely create a course and sell it on your website. This is a great way to monetize your blog. For example, you can create a course on how to create a blog and be successful at it. You would list out the steps and ways you need to implement in order to see success with your blog.

How To Get Traffic To Your Blog?

Again, there are so many ways which you can drive traffic to your website. Below are some ways which I have used and have worked for me.

Write Helpful posts

I see a lot of people that write a post that’s like 4000 words, but they don’t answer the question. Try to present useful and helpful content to your visitors. I mean they would be more than happy to visit your site again. Don’t bore your visitors out.

Writing Long Posts

So writing long posts, without answering your visitor’s questions is such a bad idea. Instead, you want to write long posts that answers your readers question. But at the same time, you can give your readers a background information about the topic they are asking about. And always include images in your posts to give your readers a break from reading.

Answer People’s questions

Basically put yourself in your readers shoes and ask yourself whether you have answered the question or not.

Keep writing Blog posts every week

This is very important because you want to keep your blog going. So always have new content added to your blog so when your readers visit your website, they will read and learn something new.

You might not see traffic in the first year or so, and that’s perfectly normal. Just keep at it and eventually you will start seeing a change in your traffic numbers.

Always check with “Google Analytics” to monitor your visitors actions and behavior. And see what is working and what not. But like I said sooner or later you will start to see changes in your traffic numbers. Do not feel discouraged.

If I ever say anything that captures your interest, please do get involved within my site. If you have anything interesting that you want to share or any opinions of any of the content I have created on my site, please do not hesitate to provide feedback. I would be more than happy to connect. Simply leave your comment below and make sure you visit my site regularly as I am always updating it.
