Why Use WP.Org Vs WP.com : Best For Blog And Affordable

Wondering Which is better-Hosted WordPress.Com or Self-Hosted WordPress.Org? You are on the right page. Below we will discuss the pros and cons of each platform. Hopefully, you will find this post of help to you.

Pros Of Hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.com)

  • WordPress.com will take care of all the hosting for you. So you don’t really have to pay for a hosting company your self.

  • No need to worry about maintaining an update and or back up on your website, as this is done for you automatically.

  • You do not have to pay for a domain name. You are on a sub-domain.

  • Have access to 100 themes which you can choose from.

Cons Of Hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.com)

  • You are limited in terms of themes. So you cannot customize or upload customized themes. There are certain themes which you can use.

  •  Can only use the already built in plugins.

  • Unfortunately, you cannot have a custom domain, which means you are on a sub-domain. And this means that you do not actually own the website, compared to when you have your own domain.

  • As for placing Ads on your site, unfortunately you cannot place ads on your website, rather you have ads placed on your website, and you don’t make money by accepting to place these ads. You really do not have a choice.

  • Cannot create an online store.

  • Can’t install third party analytics plugins.

  • Additionally, You cannot create membership sites.

  • Not to mention, you do not own the content.

  • Furthermore, you cannot add email marketing tools such as Aweber, GetResponse, or MailChimp.

Pros Of Self-Hosted WordPress (Also Known as WordPress.Org)

  • You will find the WordPress software and download and install on your web-server.

  • Can use all the plug-ins you want. Whether they are free or paid plugins.

  • Able to use any ads you want on your website. And you get to keep 100 percent of your earnings.

  • Can create an online store.

  • Able to use third party analytics plugins.

  • Have the ability to create membership sites.

  • Most importantly, you own the content.

  • Get over 1500 themes to choose from.

  • You can add any email marketing tool on your website, such as Aweber, MailChimp, and GetResponse.

Cons Of Self-Hosted WordPress (Also Known as WordPress.Org)

  • You need to purchase your own domain (.org,.net,.com). But that’s not really a bad thing, because if you join blue host, you will get a domain for free for the first year. After that it will cost you some where between $15-$20 per year.

  • Responsible for having updates done on your site. That’s only a click away. LOL.

Which Is Better Hosted WordPress.Com or Self-Hosted WordPress.Org?

As you can see each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, you are better off with using WordPress. org than using WordPress.com, especially for blogging or Niche sites. The reason is because you are  in control of your website.

Although it’s not free to use WordPress.org (self-hosted), but it’s still  affordable to start your blog if you choose an affordable yet great hosting company. As I mentioned earlier I use Blue host as my hosting company, and they are great. I have never had any problems with them.

Reasons why I recommend Blue Host ?

  • Blue Host has an excellent customer support.

  • Have a user-friendly control panel.

  • You get a free domain when you first sign up with them. A domain normally costs somewhere between $15-$20 per year. This is one of the main reasons newbies start with blue host.

  • BH (BlueHost) powers over 2 million websites.

  • They have  24/7 live support for both shoppers and customers.

  • Their WordPress hosting has been officially recommended by the WordPress organization.

  • If for any reason, you are not happy with the service there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.

  • They provide inexpensive hosting plans for individuals and small businesses.

Having said that, the choice is yours. There are so many hosting companies out there. Take your time when choosing a hosting to start your online business.

Furthermore, it cost me approx $250 to host 3 websites for 3 years without domain costs ($11.99 per year per domain). And to be honest, I couldn’t get a better deal out there than what I got with Blue Host (see image below). It’s up to you.
