I Dislike Kijiji, What About You?

Today I would like to write about my own opinion based on real life experience with Kijiji. For those of you who don’t know Kijiji ( I am sure Y’all have heard of it). It is a free buy and sell platform.

One of the ways individuals especially the stay at home moms and dads can do while being able to look after their youngsters, is to sell online, or to even post online classified ads in their region, or city. This is a very common way of selling items you no longer need. I think it is very convenient to many of us. There is an advantage to both the seller and the buyer.

The advantage to the buyer,  he or she, can purchase items that are brand new (sometimes), or even second hand (used, but in good or great condition), at a really low price. On the other hand, sellers, can sell items they no longer need, and make money.

To begin with, for those that do not know what Kijiji is, it is an online classified advertising service. It is organized by city and urban region, for posting local ads. To post an Ad, simply you need a valid e-mail address. As a seller, you post items for sale, at no cost at all. Buyers on the other hand, can communicate with the sellers (for free), and agree on the price of the item (s). So pretty straight forward, right? Yup, wait till you read what’s next!

Why I Don’t Like Kijiji?

very simple, I think it is being misused by the users. For example, have you ever experienced one of the following below?

⇒Someone has an item for sale, and you agree on the price, and when you show up to pick up the item, they tell you “Oh give me an extra $5?”.

⇒You agree to have an item delivered to your house, and you agree on the price, but no one bothers to show up, or even call to tell you they no longer want to sell their item?

⇒This one I had like 2 days ago. I agreed to come buy an item at 2 o’clock, and I call at 1:30 to let them know ” I am on my way”. They text me back saying: ” Oh someone came already and bought the item”. I think they should have at least let me know.

⇒You, as a seller, agree on the price. And when they ask if you can deliver the item, and you agree. They just never send you anything back. 6 days later, you get a message ” Oh, I forgot to hit the “Enter” key”. And then you have to start all over again, but this time, they don’t want to pay you for the delivery cost, which you had agreed on 6 days ago!

⇒All of the Above!

So, I have experienced all of the above, thus, not a happy user of Kijiji. I personally would rather go pay for something more at a store, or shop online, than have to go through something like this.

Kijiji is just not meant to be used in this kind of way, unfortunately, it is. And I am certain, there are really awesome people that use Kijiji (sellers and buyers).
